I woke up at my "regular" 4:30 AM for the first time since Daylight saving time started this year. That meant that #coffeeoutside could actually happen, and be break after a couple hours of work was on the clock. A great way to kick off SpringCoffee Outside January 28 2014, 0 Comments
The new baby is finally sleeping through most of the night, at least for the moment. THat helps get me out of bed and out to the beach in time for some coffee outside and the sun rise. Today was tight, but I set up in the dark, then as the sun light passed through the clouds and the magic lens of LA air things went all sorts of psychedelic for a bit, then settled in closer to normal. As usual, a great day to enjoy being outside, light breezes and temps in the 40's but closer to 50 right by the water.Wednesday Coffee October 30 2013, 0 Comments
Today was cold, below 50, crystal clear and perfect light. I put some miles on the new tires in the dark, then picked a spot with a pod of dolphins just offshore to set up and brew.Coffee Outside October 16 2013, 0 Comments
Things are busy, and I jyst realized I now have two wednesday blog posts back to back. That means I need to catch up on the promised technical articles. Until then.... Our Indian Summer is in full swing. We live at the confluence of two valleys, one with wind coming down from the mountains at 50 degrees, and the other from the inland valleys at 80. This morning the weather was dominated by high pressure, Santa Ana winds and it was a swirl of hot and cold, with crystal clear air and visibility as far as the curvature of the earth would allow. I headed up into the hills above town to get the most out of the morning views. The best way to start the day, play outside, have fun, work hard and do what you loveWednesday Coffee October 09 2013, 0 Comments
I managed to dodge the first real winter rain of the season this morning. It my or may not start later today, but it sure looks like it, and there was rain on the horizon. It was also the first real ride of the season where i needed to cover my knees, temps dipping into the 50's, yes I know the horrors of living in Southern California. The extra bonus was leaving my filter cone at home, getting to improvise, and guess what....it was all still way better than OK. Get out and ride your bike, drink a little coffee, and play outside!Raising the Bar October 02 2013, 0 Comments
I was working through the normal Wednesday morning routine where I sneak out early, coffee and camera gear packed, and head out into the predawn to brew up a cup outside. This morning a few minutes before leaving, the best Plan B ever kicked in. Out 3 year old decided she was going to wake up with daddy at 5:15, and 34week pregnant mommy was not so stoked, as she figured I was already gone. I headed upstairs, grabbed the munchikin, cereal fixins and moved all the gear over to the Xtracycle. Then in a flash, we were off to set up "camp" under the glow of the sodium lights. Mommy was able to grab an extra hour or so of rest, and we had a blast. I am pretty sure this is going to happen again, maybe even planned ahead, is that is possible with kids.Coffee Outside September 25 2013, 0 Comments
This Wednesday's ride had an added twist. Last night when starting to get things together it became apparent that we were out of beans, and that makes coffee outside in the morning just a little harder. With the weather turning to our Fall, I decided to get up a bit earlier and ride to pick up some beans, then brew up on the way back across town. It turned out to be pretty darn nice, and extra 15 miles of riding, and refreshed heading into the day. It is easier than you think, more fun than any of your friends are likely having in the morning, and tastes better outside, really.Coffee Outside September 18 2013, 0 Comments

A perfect morning to take a break outside. The fog finally pulled out to sea for the morning. It is going to be a good day.- Page 1 of 3
