Potential September 08 2011, 0 Comments

Today is going to be an interesting day, lots of potential, and I am warming up to throw everything I have at it. It is amazing what 4 or 5 hours of solid sleep can do for one's disposition.

All or Nothing September 07 2011, 0 Comments

The summer sun and heat made their appearance this morning. Lots of nice stuff at the swap meet, but too rich for my blood today.

Another ride to the farmer's market.  I think that almost 30% of my recent riding has been in pursuit of produce.  Weather is gloomy again on the coast, but a wonderful 60 deg temp for riding. By the time I made it 10 miles or so from home the fog was starting to thin out.  The bags were filled with fantastic fresh stuff. Now it is time to make some sauce out of all these veggies, hope you weekend is going well too!

Grocery Time Trials September 01 2011, 0 Comments

I do not race anybody but myself, ever.  I love to ride, but time gets tight every now and then.  As much fan as a casual ramble can be, sometimes the challenge of 10 miles, two grocery stops and less than an hour and a half to get it done, with stop lights, signs and morning traffic as the sauce on top is just what you need to break the funk.  Things were still a bit bleery heading up the hill into the fog as I am fighting off the tail end of a cold. Crossing town to the Trader Joe's load up on some staples, and through the parking lot to the farmer's market.  Packing the saddle bag with Juice, frozen beef and veggies untill the bag was super stuffed.  The load maxed the limits of the bagman support for sure, and I need to make some time to push ahead on a better solution.  Checking the time I realised that I had blown over 20 minutes shopping.  Time to jam towards home, through the fields. Almost home I was still just under an hour, and slowed down for a surf check.  South swell filling in, but no time to watch the sets.  I am not sure where to fit it in, but I need to get back in the water soon. I made it home in just a few minutes over an hour, and even cruised through a few rows of the swap meet on the last mile home for good measure.  Fantastic ride all things considered.  I took the load upstairs and took a minute to blend up some fruit and veggies in the vitamix. Frosting on the whole thing was answering the phone 10 minutes after I walked in the door, still a little wound up from the ride, to a phone interview that I was not expecting for anther 4 hours or so.  I feel that it went well, probably better with the endorphin push and no time to over think my answers.  Hopefully I did not come off as a coffee spaz.  This could be the dream job, and an interesting path opening up for sure,  I am looking forward to chasing this trail out to the end.

15 Minutes of Fame September 01 2011, 0 Comments

A couple of months back my neighbor George asked if I would be interested in doing a segment for his local access TV show, OurVentura.com .  We went back and forth on it a bit, and finally set a date to record, and now the post production is done.  I am not sure when it will air, but it is up on his web page. It was a fun experience, I learned a ton about TV and public speaking all in one 30 minute lesson. Nothing like being on the spot, in front of cameras rolling, and talking to a complete stranger about something you are passionate about, but is news to them.  This may lead to an oppertunity to host a show, and who knows where these kind of branches on the tree can lead.

Cross Town Ride August 29 2011, 0 Comments

The fog has moved out to see and it was a fantastic morning for a cool crisp ride across town to get some groceries.   Our little girl is growing up fast, 15 months now, and we can head out for multi stop errand rides well over an hour and up to 12 miles or so.  Snacks, water and breaks in the trip are critical to success, but easy to do and keep the rides fun.  One of the bigger challenges has been in re-assessing the routes to minimize busy roads that I would otherwise ride my own bike on.  We get to see a bit more of the neighborhoods we hope to call home in the coming year and scope out the cool playgrounds.  As with kids in general the only way to understand how fun can be is through doing it.

Friday Ramble August 26 2011, 0 Comments

Posting has been a bit sporadic lately due to some fantastic visits from out-of-town family and some other stuff like birthdays etc. that are, well, um, just higher on the list than posting.  Things should be getting a bit closer to normal in the coming weeks as I get back into my morning groove.  Today I was lucky to have the time to head up the coast and on a whim, extend the ride. Everything started as a normal cruise up the coast.  Then I pushed a little further to La Conchita to grab a couple fresh coconuts, more on at a  later date.  That  required going a mile or two further to Rincon to make the turn around.  As I approached the turn around point I decided to make a right instead of a left. Heading up and back into the hills a bit to make a few more turns up and around, exploring some routes new to me.  Time was starting to close in and I made my way back down to the coast.  I hit the non-paved route from Carp back down to Rincon. The rest was the regular ride back down the coast.  It was good to be back on the bike.  I know we are supposed to be having a heat wave, but it was incredibly nice out.  Fall is just around the corner and closing in quick. Happy friday, and do not forget to play outside this weekend!

Bright Yellow Ball August 18 2011, 0 Comments

While making my morning tea I noticed that the moon and stars were actually visible for the first time in weeks.  Then the black sky slowly gave way to blue. I think it is going to be a nice day, Have fun and play outside!

Wednesday Standard - And Some Loot August 17 2011, 0 Comments

Made it to the swap meet now that the fair is on its way out, and managed to pull a near mint Singer 192 in a VERY nice wooden case A pleasant surprise since most of the stuff a this swap meet is usually pretty beaten down.
